A wind energy engineer designs, develops, and optimizes wind turbines and wind farms. They assess potential sites, analyze wind data, and ensure structural integrity and efficiency of turbines. Their work may include managing projects, overseeing installations, and ensuring regulatory compliance. They also conduct research to improve wind energy technology.
What qualifications are required?
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or aerospace)
- Master's degree in renewable energy or wind energy systems (preferred)
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) certification

In-depth understanding of the principles of aerodynamics and how they apply to the design and performance of wind turbine blades and rotors.
Ability to analyze the structural integrity of wind turbine components, ensuring they can withstand the stresses and loads encountered during operation.
Proficiency in designing the electrical systems that convert the mechanical energy of wind turbines into usable electricity, including generators, transformers, and power electronics.
Capacity to identify and address complex technical challenges, using a systematic approach to gather data, analyze issues, and develop innovative solutions.
